Well, another Christmas has come and gone.

Over the last couple days, I've seen a number of people stating what they think of the holidays. Here's my 2 cents. I love Christmas. But it's more about the season then the day. I'll agree with the folks who have said that Christmas has become too commercial, because it has. And, to be quite honest, Christmas day has always been a bit of a letdown for me.

Christmas eve, as I've said before, is my favourite day in the year, not the 25th. On Christmas eve, I get los of time to watch those cheesy holiday specials that I have on tape... I'll watch them after Christmas too. I've grown up with them, and as stupid and childish as some of them are, they're part of my Christmas... but they're not what I look forward to.

What I look forward to is leaving the house, at about 2:30 to go to church. Why? Because, ever since I remember, I've been involved in the evening Christmas eve service, and it's probably the most meaningful part of the season to me. It's a time of fellowship, a time to get together with some of my oldest friends. (Yes, most of the friends I've known the longest go to church, and camp with me.) It, of course, is also the time that I get to look at the Christmas story, through both scripture, story, and song. I'm usually involved mainly in the 3rd element listed... I'm a soprano, and often do solos, as do most of my family members... Over the years, we've done many different stories, and have presented in many different ways, but all of them that I can think of are either based on the spirit of giving, or the Christmas story itself. Even when it's not directly involved, all of the carols sung are hymns, from Once In Royal David's City to Away in a Manger to one of my personal favourites, O Holy Night. It's honestly something that I look forward to every year, and is, as I've mentioned already, one of, if not the most meaningful parts of Christmas to me.

Christmas day, on the other hand, I find to be overly rushed. I go from place to place to place, basically opening up presents, saying hi, and then going. I don't like that. It does make Christmas seem completely commercial and not focused on the right thing. Not that I don't like gifts... we all like getting them now and again methinks, it's just that it's a little overboard... (understatement? probably). This year, everyone came over to my house, and it was pretty draining. When you have little ones running around and everyone talking loudly, while trying to find a quiet-ish spot with the 2 other teens who feel the same way, it's pretty chaotic. But at least we're all together for Christmas. ^_^

Overall, I'll keep the spirit of the Christmas season alive in my heart. Anticipation, happiness, love, charity(hopefully...), scripture, starlight and song. 'cause that's what Christmas means to me.

some Christmas related quizzes... ^^; )

Well, that's one major holiday over, only 1 week 'till the year is done too... scary, no?

Happy holidays everyone!
