Cosplay, Panels, and... Dinosaur Cowboys?
Apr. 27th, 2013 12:18 amThings on my mind right now involve cosplay (possibly entering a human chess tournament, where/when to buy fabric, drop-front trousers, plan of attack for the next month, etc), the fact that I'm now officially still one person short on my Les Mis panel for Anime North (and thus a free con), and dinosaur cowboys.
Shopping went decently well today; I didn't get as much as I wanted to, and I spent more on what I did get than I was planning to (as is always the case), but it's a nice start. The con is officially less than a month away now, which means I've really got to get sewing and buying, but I've got a fairly good plan of attack, and only two fairly difficult costumes (out of five that I'm making). I'm hoping to get all but one costume done before May 22nd; it's one of the more involved costumes, but I won't be seeing the person that it's for until that day, so the 22nd-24th will be a mad dash of trying to get that one done (and you'd better believe that I plan on having rough copies of that one ready to go when my model arrives).
Expect lots of update posts over the next month, possibly with photos. I have almost everything I need for two of my cosplays, and enough supplies that I can do rough drafts of everything else anyway.
As for the Les Mis panel... I'm actually one short on that and Fandom in Real Life, by the sound of things, but there's an official list saying that I'm one short for Les Miserables. I'm posting everywhere to see if I can find a fourth, and there was at least one or two people interested, but no-one has actually taken the initiative to fill the spot yet. I'm... really hoping it gets filled, because it's going to be a really fun panel if it happens (full of singing and dorking about the brick and the musical and the movie/movies and the anime adaptations, and how adaptation works, and the fact that the Japanese seem to have a thing for revolutionary France etc etc etc). tsukinokage both get free admission to Anime North next year, or $50 this year which is always a good thing. (Not that I'm not going to be up to my knees trying to recruit people for a group registration next year anyway, but still.)
As for dinosaur cowboys.... I blame this, and admittedly I kind of want to follow up with all the AUs that this fanart introduces. (My mind has been playing around with a few different situations where Bahorel would have a mohawk and be drinking coffee, for one....)
You know, I have to say that it's fun when my mind can actually get caught up in fandom. There's some stress with deadlines (cosplay!!!) and real-life things like job applications and cleaning (my room is a semi-disaster that I'm hoping to straighten up this weekend, and I managed to find a cool internship for a book festival that I want to apply to, along with a bunch of library jobs)... but overall I have to say that I'm in a happy place right now.
[Edit] My Les Mis panel unofficially has a fourth. =D Still have to wait for official word and signup is probably still open until then, but even unofficial word makes me happy. =D
