Well, this is a new one.
The library was an hour late opening today. Not due to any fault of the staff -- we were here and ready to do our jobs.
No.
The doors were literally stuck.
Also, our program room was flooded.
And so my job for the first hour was to sit outside the door and explain to people that yes, the library is closed and we're sorry for the inconvenience and we'll do anything we can if needed buuut.... yes.
In a way, the bad stuff this morning, at least from my perspective, was the best thing that could have happened.
Let me tell you, last Saturday was kind of.... ridiculously busy and crazy (not bad, just algjaslkghasklh as it were), and so I was dreading this morning. And this follows that theme, though going a bit more into the "bad" side of things, at least for the library as a whole. I mean, the library doors should be able to open!
But I was smiling and talking to people who were planning on using the library, and politely joking about the situation. (ie: the fact that the library is closed because we literally can't get it open) and having an overall pretty good time. And now I feel a lot better.
...and am probably going to spend the rest of my morning half of shift (I'm doing a split shift today with a four hour break in between... woohoo?) pulling holds. There's over a hundred of them.
Also: I spent half an hour on Sunday helping someone research Pokémon. Which is even more awesome when you realize I wrote a paper involving Pokémon and One Direction in my final year of studies. (...and I really would love to refine that and get it published... I know an academic web periodical or two dedicated to fandom... tee hee hee...)
Seriously, sometimes things can be insane, but at other times, I seriously love my jobs.

Date: 2013-02-20 01:46 am (UTC)That sounds like a fantastic paper. And it's news to me that there are fandom-dedicated academic periodicals! I don't know if I'm entertained or intrigued or horrified or a combination of all three.

Date: 2013-02-20 02:46 am (UTC)I love that paper so much. I could geek about it for hours but I probably shouldn't. ...and I just found the hard copy the other day, the prof liked how much original research I put into it, which made me really happy. (It's stuff my friends do, which make collecting it easier. Though with a larger project and a larger research base I could do so much more with it!)
I actually have a few bibliographies related to fandom in my possession. The fact that it is a valid area of study is one of the things seriously making me consider going back for a fourth degree. I mean, really. Spending years working on primary research in fandom? That is one of the best things I can imagine.
The periodical, by the way, is web-based and open access, and is accessible here.
